What Does a Car Detailer Do ?

Car detailers do a variety of services.

The basic services offered by auto detailers are a compete clean of any vehicle including washing, waxing, vacuuming, deodorising, window cleaning and tyre blackening.

Further services they offer including polishing the vehicle, and in severe cases cutting and polishing the vehicle to remove swirls and small scratches. If the scratches are too deep and go into the primer or undercoat, then cutting the paint will not work. Your detailer should be able tell if the marks can be cut out or if you need the paint touched up.

Auto detailers also offer shampooing as a service, removing dirt, grime, and stains from carpet and seats. This process uses a machine to spray shampoo and water into the material, and then sucking the water out, bringing the dirt with it.

Some car detailers also have other qualifications to expand the services.

These can include...

  • Paint, vinyl and carpet protection.

  • Plastic rejuvenation - meaning bringing the colour back to door handles, dash boards and plastic trims.

  • Head light restoration - restoring faded headlights to look like new.

  • Odour removal - using ozone generators to remove mould, smoke and other bad smells that have indented themselves in the vehicle.

  • Carpet dying - restoring carpet to it’s original bright colour and glory.

  • Cigarette burn repair - repairing small tears and burns in carpets and fabrics.

  • Paint chip repair - Some detailers even go the distance of repairing small paint chips, although this is normally left to auto painters.
